CODEX

A speaker for true live feeling

Audio Physic presents the new Codex. The award-winning speaker is equipped for the first time with the revolutionary PowerTrain technology including the new midrange driver HHCM SL.

As a result, the Codex achieves unrivalled performance in resolution and spatial imaging in this class. The elegant and minimalist design of the Codex remains unchanged.

There is always a certain divergence between excellent music reproduction and interior design features. For a rich, deep bass and a solid foundation, loudspeakers require a certain cabinet volume. The Codex successfully manages this tight-rope act, thanks to its intelligent cabinet architecture and variety of available finishes. Despite its volume, the four-way loudspeaker with its clear contours and slender baffle exudes an air of stylish elegance. Especially the high-gloss glass finishes, combined with bright colour tones, almost lends the loudspeakers an appearance of weightlessness.

Special attention was paid to the inner structure of the corpus, as only an extremely sturdy cabinet offers the prerequisite for a reproduction that is pure and true to detail. Numerous braces and extremely stiff elements, made of open-cell ceramic foam, lend the Codex body superb stability, without noticeably reducing the interior volume. Thanks to the sandwich construction, featuring a permanently elastic intermediate layer, the cabinet is perfectly quiet. Thus, the acoustic impacts of the cabinet components themselves are effectively counteracted.

The subwoofer on the Codex is mounted in the interior of the cabinet, utilizing an optimally matched chamber. The 10” long-throw chassis is extremely powerful and effortlessly transmits the lowest frequencies. From 100 Hertz on, it hands the baton over to a 7” chassis in the front of the cabinet. Here’s the benefit of this division of labour: The bass reproduction remains confident and controlled in any situation. What’s more, the Codex offers considerably more latitude in terms of placement than traditionally designed loudspeakers, even close to a wall, they play with crisp structure and full torque.

The clarity in the lower octaves provides a cornerstone for exceptionally neutral and precise reproduction of mid and high frequencies.

Here, the pioneering Hyper Holographic Cone tweeter, now in its third generation, and the ground-breaking HHCM SL midrange driver come into play. Thanks to its special surround design, it does not need a centring spider at all, which makes the structure behind the aluminium cone much more streamlined, which in turn prevents compression effects.

That is why the sound reproduction is not affected by any renegade resonance, so-called partial vibrations. In addition, the chassis have their own compartment in the corpus of the Codex. This eliminates any interactions via the air volume in the loudspeaker. For maximum signal fidelity, the crossover network is distributed among several levels and equipped with first-rate components. The individual modules are placed next to each chassis.

The Codex also shows meticulous detail in its connection terminal. Here, the loudspeaker cables are connected with high-end WBT nextgen™ pole pieces. The terminal is also mechanically decoupled from the loudspeaker cabinet. It is the sum of all these details that makes the Codex a veritably mature loudspeaker – true to the Audio Physic motto: No loss of fine detail.

Features

4-Way Design

The 4-way speaker features four different drivers that share reproduction of the entire frequency range. One or more subwoofers, one or more woofers, a midrange and a tweeter. Usually the crossover frequency between subwoofer and woofer is set at around 100Hz, while low and mid frequencies are separated between 250Hz and 400Hz, and the crossover frequency between midrange and tweeter is normally set at 2,000Hz to 3,000Hz.

HHCT III – Hyper Holographic Cone Tweeter

Many AUDIO PHYSIC Core Technologies have been combined to build the HHCM-III tweeter. Together, they serve a single purpose: To guarantee an authentic rendition of the music, unaffected by any unwanted vibrations.

Ceramic Foam Bracing

Ceramic Foam is a high-tech material used for internal bracing in many of our speakers. It is much stiffer than MDF although it consists of 85% air. This means, the room taken up by the internal bracing is also part of the effective volume of air the drivers need to work. By using Ceramic Foam, we can build loudspeakers that match and out-perform much bulkier speakers.

Sandwich Cabinet Construction

Our unique Sandwich Cabinets are an innovative way to stop the speaker cabinet from developing an acoustical life of its own. It is especially effective with our stylish glass-finished speakers as the relatively high weight of the glass panels helps dampening the cabinet even better.

Invisible Subwoofer

Some of our speakers feature an internal woofer inside the cabinet provides the same deep bass and punch as an additional subwoofer without anyone ever having to see it.

Dual Basket Design

AUDIO PHYSIC’S unique DUAL BASKET DESIGN is a true break-through innovation and the most important part of the HHCM-III technology. Instead of the tradition single basket, our HHCM-III features two separate baskets to prevent and subdue unwanted vibrations already at the source.

Active Cone Damping

ACTIVE CONE DAMPING is a unique design to reduce resonances in metal diaphragms, developed exclusively by AUDIO PHYSIC

Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping optional

Most our speakers have a regular single-wiring terminal to avoid unnecessary metal or wire bridges that would harm sound quality when used in single-wiring configuration (Which is what most Hi-Fi fans actually use). However, an optional Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping Terminal can usually be ordered with any new speaker. Retrofitting only on special request.

CCAC – Ceramic Coated Aluminium Cone

By coating a conical aluminium diaphragm with a special ceramic material, AUDIO PHYSIC creates a diaphragm that is at the same time very light as well as extremely rigid. When used together with ACTIVE CONE DAMPING technology the cone diaphragm is virtually immune against any partial oscillations that would otherwise impair the sound.

VCF – Vibration Control Feet optional

The best feet for our – and other – speakers. VCF provide a substantial improvement of sound performance by reducing transfer of unwanted vibrations while at the same time protecting delicate surfaces. Also available as VCF Component for Hi-Fi separates and as VCF Cable Supports.

VCT – Vibration Control Terminal

Unwanted vibrations have negative effects on sound quality wherever they occur in the signal path. Because AUDIO PHYSIC has made it their mission to fight unwanted vibration and resonance whenever and wherever they occur, the fully decoupled VIBRATION CONTROL TERMINAL (VCT) has been devised.
