By adding Wi-Fi to the RX-V577, Yamaha has made it easier than ever to enjoy wireless music from computers, smartphones, and tablets. If you have an iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or a computer running iTunes®, you can stream music wirelessly to the receiver with AirPlay for playback on your home theater speakers. The receiver itself has built-in support for Pandora Internet radio, Spotify (subscription required), and free Internet radio streams from stations around the world. Download Yamaha's free AV Controller app to your Apple or Android device for easy navigation of your receiver's features and use your smartphone or tablet as a Wi-Fi® remote. Plus, the app allows you to control the receiver and stream music from your smartphone without a network connection using the V577's Wireless Direct technology.

More digital music options for MP3s and high-res audio files

If you have an iPod or iPhone, plug it into the RX-V577's front-panel USB input. This creates a direct digital connection, bypassing your device's digital circuitry in favor of the receiver's superior digital-to-analog converters. This lets you enjoy your digital music files with rich, detailed sound. You can also use the USB input with thumb drives loaded up with your favorite tunes. You can even play high-resolution FLAC and Apple Lossless files, so you can enjoy the enhanced detail and dynamics of these formats. The 'V577 supports gapless playback from USB and network sources, so you won't have that annoying gap of silence in between tracks on a live album.

Find your ideal sound

Other cool features include Yamaha's DSP listening modes, which allow you to optimize surround sound to your taste and mood. With the AV Controller app, you can even tweak the sound of these listening modes by adjusting parameters manually using a touchscreen interface to widen the soundstage or add more reverb. "Extra Bass" ensures you get more low-frequency output, even when using smaller bookshelf speakers for your front channels. Having a hard time finding a place for those rear surround speakers? Virtual Cinema Front can simulate surround sound even when all your speakers are placed in the front of the room.
